Amlou is a Berber spread from the Souss region of southern Morocco, made by grinding roasted almonds with argan oil and honey. Trésors d'Ailleurs, a French fine-food brand specialising in artisan spreads, offers a faithful recipe: almonds (75%), organic argan oil and pure honey, with no added sugar and no palm oil. The paste is stone-ground in the brand's own workshop in France.
Roasted almond leads on the palate, carried by the roundness of argan oil and a honeyed finish; the texture is fluid and slightly grainy. Consumers eat it by the spoonful, on bread or pancakes, or stirred into yoghurt or fromage blanc. The 350 g jar keeps at room temperature; the oil may rise to the top, and a quick stir brings it back together.
Why list it
- A fine-food product with a strong identity that lifts both the North African aisle and the breakfast aisle.
- A short, readable recipe with 75% almonds: an argument for label-conscious shoppers.
- A family-size 350 g jar, more generous than the 190 g jars common in the category.
- Made in France by an established brand already listed by online North African grocers.
- Complements honey, dates and culinary argan oil.
On the shelf
Place amlou with spreads and nut butters, or in the North African grocery section next to honeys and dates. Cross-merchandise with msemen flatbreads, traditional bread and pancakes for a breakfast or Ramadan display. Tell customers that a layer of oil on top is normal for a product without emulsifier.
