Caprice tender sweets are chewy candies made in Algeria by the Société des Produits de Sucre Caprice, based in Aïn Benian near Algiers since 1965. The texture is a soft paste that stretches under the tooth, somewhere between a chewy caramel and a jelly sweet. The bag mixes fruit flavours — strawberry, orange, lemon, peach, cherry, raspberry — and every sweet comes in its own twist wrapper. The bag carries the Arabic mention « بدون جيلاتين », gelatine free.
For several generations of Algerians this is a childhood sweet: bought one at a time at the corner shop, handed round at Eid and family celebrations, kept in a bowl on the table. In France it speaks first to North African shoppers, but the bright pack makes it readable by everyone.
Why list it
- An emblematic Algerian brand, recognised instantly by shoppers of North African origin.
- An impulse buy, suited to the checkout and end-of-aisle.
- Individually wrapped sweets work loose in bulk bins or in a welcome bowl in store.
- Sales peak at Eid, at the start of the school year and around family celebrations.
- Fills a world-confectionery slot that French brands barely cover.
On the shelf
Shelve Caprice sweets in confectionery, in the world-food section or on an end-cap near the tills. Group them with the other Caprice lines — sticks, bubble gum, caramels — to build a recognisable brand block. Keep the bag at room temperature, away from heat: above 25°C the sweets start to stick to their wrappers.
