Talbina is a barley porridge rooted in the Prophetic tradition: ground barley simmered gently in milk until creamy. Mufeed, the house brand of Ouine Distribution, offers a pre-cooked version made from organic hulled barley flour, produced in France (Mayenne), which brings cooking time down to 5 to 7 minutes. The plain talbina contains no added sweetener or topping; the pack states that it is a source of iron and magnesium and high in fibre.
For the consumer it is a warm, filling breakfast: 4 tablespoons in 200 ml of plant-based or dairy milk over low heat, then a natural sweetener (date sugar, honey, maple syrup) and toppings of their choice. It can also be eaten cold once cooked.
Why list it
- A traditional product sought by Muslim shoppers, presented in a modern, easy-to-read carton.
- Certified organic (EU leaf and French AB logo) and made in France: two arguments visible on the shelf.
- The 335 g format suits delicatessens and supermarkets alike; steady rotation all year, stronger ahead of Ramadan.
- The plain recipe is the most versatile and the natural entry point to the three flavoured recipes.
On the shelf
Place talbina in the breakfast aisle next to oats and porridge, or in the North African grocery and wellness section. Cross-merchandise with dates, honey, date sugar and plant-based milks. Consumers adjust the number of spoonfuls for a thinner or thicker porridge.
